Abstract

Adolescence is characterized by physical, psychological, and social changes that may influence body image and self-confidence. This study aimed to analyze differences in body image and self-confidence between male and female students at SMAN 1 Mojosari. A quantitative comparative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 143 Grade X and XI students selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire–Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS) and the Self-Confidence Scale. The Mann–Whitney test (α = 0.05) was used for data analysis. Most respondents had a positive body image (55.9%), while 64.3% demonstrated moderate self-confidence. Female students showed a higher proportion of positive body image, whereas male students had slightly higher self-confidence. However, no significant differences were found in body image (p = 0.228) or self-confidence (p = 0.101) between male and female students. Gender was not a significant factor influencing body image or self-confidence.
